Are you up for the challenge?

SF_Banner_2014EndYearDonorChallenge

Deadline Set for December Donor Challenge!

The December Donor Challenge has arrived! If the PTA can raise $6,000 in donations for our school before the end of December, a small group of Fairmount Park families, including many PTA board members, will match the money with an additional contribution of $6,000. Every donation made between December 15 and December 31st will count in this challenge.

This is a great chance to “double your donation,” and support the important programs and resources that help all our students grow and thrive in this first, crucial year and beyond. Please consider making your donation today to help us meet this goal!

There are several ways to give:

  • Place a check in the ‘Annual Give’ folder in the main office.
  • Visit give.fpepta.org to make a donation online.
  • Check with your employer to see if they will match your donation.

If you have questions, please contact Sarah Lenssen and Sarah Popelka, Fundraising Chairs, at give@fpepta.org.

Thank you for your generous support!

What would you give?

FPEPTA_GivingTuesday

Dear Friends of Fairmount Park Elementary,

What would you give for your child to have an educational support system designed to expose them to the arts, cross-cultural ideals, creative thinking, problem-solving and life skills — life skills that will help them not only succeed in their careers and their lives, but will help them find their own paths to success? Since you are part of the family at Fairmount Park Elementary, you may not realize that most public schools do not have this kind of support system. Many schools in our city do not have enrichment programs, art programs, music programs or the classroom opportunities that Fairmount Park has been able to implement. Part of the school’s ability to provide this is based on the focus of our principal and our amazing teaching staff, but also in large part because of the community support that the school receives from donors like you. Your donation to the Fairmount Park Elementary PTA supports extra opportunities in and outside of the classroom, it supports our wellness program at the school, it supports music and arts opportunities.

When children are exposed to things like the arts, cross-cultural ideals and creative thinking – their perspectives expand and they are able to become the community-minded, sensitive and forward-thinking citizens that we all want to be ourselves. By giving our children the opportunity to be enriched, we are giving them the tools to reach their unlimited potential.

It is difficult to pinpoint a limit on what one might give to create that path of opportunity for their child. It can start with a donation to FPEPTA.

If every family were to support the FPEPTA at $290 or more, we would meet our goal of $100,000 for the year; we would be able to fund a permanent wellness program, our music and all of the class and school-wide enrichment opportunities. Any donation is appreciated, and as an extra incentive, any donor of $500 or more by the end of December will be given a chance to purchase up to two of the first 20 tickets to the FPEPTA Auction to be held February 21. General tickets (which will sell out fast, as the donated venue has a capacity of 150) will go on sale January 12. Don’t miss your opportunity – make your gift of $500 or more today.

Donations can be made online at give.fpepta.org, where you can either make a lump sum donation that will count toward your end-of-year charitable contributions or establish a manageable monthly donation plan. Help us create the educational support system that every child deserves. Thank you for your support!

GIVE NOW

 Sincerely,

THANK YOU, Charter Members!

Between May 3 and May 31, parents, teachers, and other friends of Fairmount Park Elementary had an opportunity to become Charter Members of FPEPTA. A Charter Membership is a unique, one-time opportunity to be acknowledged as one of the founding members of the Fairmount Park Elementary PTA, an affiliate of the Washington State PTA. Charter membership empowers those who became members in May to have a voice and a vote in PTA business until September of 2015 (versus a standard twelve-month membership), and to receive name recognition on a framed certificate that will be hung in the school for posterity.

The Executive Committee is thrilled to report *193* members helped to charter Fairmount Park Elementary PTA:

Fantastic Falcon Fest II & Call for Refined Designs

Falcon Flyers in Camp Long meadowThe second Falcon Fest Creative Collaboration was another fantastic gathering of the Fairmount Park Elementary students, families, and teachers. We enjoyed sunny skies for creating falcon flyers and tested the flyers in the meadow of Camp Long. We had a chance to work together on a top secret mosaic project and to build a big papier mache falcon. We admired the amazing artwork from the first Falcon Fest, created more sketches of falcons, and brainstormed about potential lyrics for a school song.

We made good progress on our main “order of business” — brainstorming and discussing the important ideas for the falcon mascot. Three AsWe focused on the “Three A’s” –Action, Attributes, and Aesthetics and came up with some great descriptive words to guide the creation of the mascot. The top choices were: majestic, wise, soaring, diving, bold and graphic, colorful, and Native American.

Here is the data of how each question’s answers were ranked with the highly sophisticated sticky dot selection process. (Each participant got three dots to stick on the important ideas of their choice.)

ACTION: What should the falcon mascot be doing? What verbs convey your vision for the Fairmount Park Falcon?

ACTION

ATTRIBUTES: What characteristics or qualities should the falcon mascot have? Are there other appropriate adjectives to describe the falcon mascot you envision?

ATTRIBUTES

AESTHETICS: What design elements and styles should be used to inform the look of the falcon mascot?

AESTHETICS

Since not everyone could be there, there is an online survey to gather as much input as possible. The survey will be open until midnight on Wednesday the 4th of June. It is super short — only 3 questions! Since the form only allows for one answer, you can put any other family members’ feedback in the comments section, as well as write in any additional ideas that you have. Students, parents, and teachers who could not attend the brainstorming session at Falcon Fest II are welcome to join in the survey!

The quick turnaround time for the survey is so that we can “hit the ground running” to refine the mascot ideas and turn them into an image to use on t-shirts, folders, and letterhead. A couple of parents have volunteered to help with this process, but let us know if you have designs to submit or want to be involved by emailing falconfest@fpepta.org. The PTA steering committee and planning team will work to finalize the design, which is needed by the end of June to allow time for printing cool gear for the fall.

We will post some of the fabulous photos from the event shortly. It has been a truly fun and engaging way to kick off our new school community!

Go Falcons!
